Many years ago, charcoal grills were the most used method for cooking outdoors. Although a few permanently installed natural gas grills were in use, actually seeing one was a rare occurrence. However, gas BBQ grills dominate the market today. The evolution of the gas grill has produced an outdoor appliance that heats quickly and precisely, has many advantages over charcoal grilling, and provide many features that make cooking more convenient. It’s no wonder that the gas barbeque grill is now the default picture in people’s minds when outdoor cooking is mentioned.

Gas grilling is quicker and more precise than charcoal grilling. The design of gas BBQ grills virtually eliminates the problem of having “hot spots” in the charcoal. Gas grills heat evenly across the cooking surface. It’s also much easy to control the cooking temperature. Charcoal grilling required you to raise or lower the cooking surface to achieve temperature control. With gas grills, you simply adjust the flow of fuel to the burners. This is especially helpful when cooking different foods like beef, poultry, fish or vegetables.

Gas barbecue grills usually last longer than the typical charcoal grill. With some periodic cleaning, the exterior of a gas grill will maintain its appearance for many years. The interior has less wear and tear since there is no fire resting directly only the bottom as there is in charcoal grills. There is no charcoal or lighter fluid needed, although you will need to periodically refill the gas cylinder. Gas grills almost never run out of fuel while cooking. You can grill or roast for long periods of time without needing to replace charcoal.

Gas grills often include additional features that make outdoor cooking even easier. The cooking surface and other parts are often made of stainless steel for easier cleaning and longer life. A built-in rotisserie is another common feature on gas grills, but is rarely available for charcoal grills. Some gas grills have started including sear burners to lock in the flavor of some meats.

All in all, gas BBQ grills are the best choice for serious outdoor cooks who specialize in grilled food. Although charcoal still work well for occasional events, anyone who grills more frequently will appreciate everything that gas grills have to offer.

If you have a fireplace in your home, then you know that it can become a beautiful focal point in your decorating scheme. You can enhance the décor of your room with well-chosen fireplace accessories. Many fireplace accessories are both functional and decorative. Some accessories perform very basic duties, while others can really liven up the look of your hearth.

Choosing fireplace accessories is not something you should do quickly or without thought. It is much more rewarding to find items that integrate perfectly with the style and décor of the room in which the fireplace is located. The right fireplace accessories can add warmth to the room exceeding even the physical warmth of the fire. Not only do fireplace accessories enhance your decorating, they also ensure that your fireplace is operating at its best. Plus, the some accessories also make the fireplace area safer and cleaner.

Some accessories may not seem like accessories at all. For example, a grate to hold the logs may seem pretty indispensable. However, grate designs can vary quite a bit. You may like some better than others. Of course, the function of the grate is to hold the logs high enough to allow for better airflow into the fire.

Metal firebacks are used to capture and radiate heat. When used properly, these decorative pieces can take heat that is normally lost and reflect it back into your home. At the same time, it protects the back surfaces of your fireplace.

You may also choose to add andirons to your fireplace. Their function is similar to a grate, but they may do a better job of keeping burning logs where they belong-that is, in the fireplace.

Log racks or log holders are also important fireplace accessories. These provide a way to store logs for adding to your fire. By having extra fuel decoratively stored near the fire, you won’t lose valuable heat going outside to get another log for the fire.

These are just a few of the fireplace accessories you can use to enhance the look, function and safety of your fireplace.

If you love the taste of grilled food, but don’t have anywhere to put a gas or charcoal grill, you should consider getting an electric BBQ grill. An electric grill is an excellent alternative to gas or charcoal. They come with many convenient features to make cooking easier. And best of all, they are practically maintenance free. Keep reading to find out if an electric BBQ grill would be a good solution for you.

Grilled food is both healthy and tasty. Unfortunately, there are many situations in which using a gas or charcoal barbeque grill simply isn’t possible. But an electric barbeque grill can be used practically anywhere. Since it uses electric heating elements, there are no fumes or smoke associated with combustion. Using gas or charcoal in an enclosed area can be deadly. Trying to grill on charcoal at an apartment complex can lead to complaints by the neighbors about smoke. But an electric grill can be used indoors and out without any smoke or fumes. And when grilling becomes this easy, you may start grilling a lot more often.

Most electric barbecue grills include features that make grilling more convenient. For example, most come with a variable temperature control. This makes achieving different temperatures for beef, poultry or fish much easier than trying to control the fire of a charcoal or gas grill. And the temperature stays constant throughout the cooking process.

Some grills add a timer that could make the difference between a perfectly cooked meal and an overcooked mess. Although many grills operate by plugging and unplugging the electrical cord, some include an on-off switch for extra safety and convenience.

Many people like electric BBQ grills because of the low maintenance requirements. Depending on the design, cleaning is about the only thing you need to do. Almost all the parts except the heating element should be dishwasher safe, which makes keeping your grill sanitized a snap.

As you can see, there are many advantages to using electric barbeque grills. In fact, many people choose this option for year-round indoor grilling even when they have plenty of room for a traditional grill.

However, charcoal barbeque grills remain a popular type among grills. Many barbeque enthusiasts swear by their charcoal grills and wouldn’t take anything else. However, using charcoal compared to gas does take more time and effort. The following post looks at some of the reasons behind charcoal’s continued popularity.

When you browse the grill section of your local home improvement store, you may begin to wonder if charcoal grills have gone the way of the dinosaur. Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. Charcoal barbecue grills are alive and well, and they remain popular with many people. One main reason for their continued sales is price-charcoal grills are less expensive than gas grills, primarily because of their simpler design. No gas regulators here! Just dump charcoal into a metal bowl and light it. Charcoal BBQ grills are also portable. It may not be possible to take the latest, greatest gas grill to your next tailgate party. Finally, charcoal grills rarely require any maintenance or repair.

Many barbeque experts claim they would choose charcoal if there were no price difference at all. Enthusiasts maintain that the traditional taste that we all associate with grilled food depends on charcoal to bring it out. Using real charcoal imparts a smokier flavor to the meat. Winners at barbeque competitions often point to charcoal as the secret behind their mouth-watering recipes.

However, as you may already know, charcoal grills take a little more effort use. Charcoal can be frustrating to light, although charcoal starters can fix this problem. Coals take longer to reach grilling temperature than gas grills. And you will need to remove the ash from charcoal grills on a regular basis.

Charcoal grills remain a popular choice because they are inexpensive and produce great results. They can be a little more work to use, but most grilled meat lovers say it’s worth it!

You might be able to pull it off, but you probably won’t be happy with the results. Having the right fireplace tools is important to maximum enjoyment of your fireplace. There are many things you need to do with a fire that make tools an absolute must. And when the tools are not in use, they can be quite decorative.

Fireplace tools should never be thought of as optional. They are essential for two different activities. First of all, fires can require a surprising amount of effort to keep them going. Tools help you keep the fire burning and producing heat for your home. Second, fireplaces need periodic cleaning and maintenance. Trying to accomplish this without the right tools will be an exercise in frustration.

Although many items might classify as fireplace tools, there are a few typical must-have items: a poker, tongs, a shovel and a broom. Your poker and tongs are used to keep the fire burning efficiently. As wood burns up in a fire, the logs in the fireplace tend to shift quite a bit. If left in one position, the logs usually end up burning down to the point where there is little flame or heat. But you can use a poker and tongs to reposition the logs as they burn to ensure that they keep burning and that the flames are high enough to ignite additional wood you add to the fire. When you’re ready for the fire to die down, you can also move the wood around to keep the small pieces burning until they’re gone.

A shovel and broom are used to clean up the ashes after the fire goes out. If ashes are allowed to build up under the grate, they will block the airflow that the fire needs to burn efficiently. You might get away with pushing the ashes to one side for a night or two, but eventually you’ll need to clean them up. Even with all of the inventions for cleaning, nothing really does the job better than a short broom and shovel to gather up and scoop the ashes into a bucket.

How hot is hot? That can be a difficult question to answer when it comes to cooking on a barbeque grill. Different meats are best cooked at different temperatures. Recipes always try to explain how hot the grill should be. But how accurate can you be by just feeling the heat? This problem is why the barbeque grill thermometer is so important. They are easy to attach to any grill. Fortunately, they are designed to stand up to any level of heat your grill can deliver. Let’s look at how grill thermometers can take the uncertainty out of your outdoor cooking.

Some people make the mistake of confusing a grill thermometer with a meat thermometer. Meat thermometers are important, too; they measure the internal temperature of the meat to test doneness. However, a grill thermometer measures the interior temperature of your grill. It’s the only way you can tell for sure when your grill has reached the optimum temperature for cooking. By achieving the proper temperature and maintaining it throughout the cooking process, you will be able to ensure practically perfect grilled food each and every time to cook. A BBQ grill thermometer is essential if you’re ready to take your outdoor cooking skills up a notch.

Some barbeque grills come already equipped with a thermometer installed in the lid. Depending on the quality of the grill, this thermometer may or may not do the trick. If you suspect that the stock thermometer is inaccurate, you can install your own. Add-on grill thermometers can either be attached to the lid of your grill, or they can be clipped onto the cooking grates.

Although grills operate at temperatures that can exceed 500 degrees, grill thermometers are designed to take the heat. They are often constructed of stainless steel. When selecting a grill thermometer for your barbeque, avoid those that measure temperatures as warm, medium or hot. You need to be able to read exact temperatures. It’s also a good idea to have both Fahrenheit and Celsius scales-you never know how the next recipe will measure it.

Fireplaces and small children don’t always mix. If you have a fireplace, but you’re concerned about the safety of your children, you should add a fireplace screen. A fireplace screen provides an extra layer of protection, but does so beautifully. You can find fireplace screens that coordinate with any style of décor. But if your primary concern is energy efficiency, you may want to get fireplace doors instead.

My favorite household items are those that do double duty, and the fireplace screen is a great example. It provides protection and it beautifies. Fireplaces are highly sought after features in houses, but they have some disadvantages, especially when it comes to safety. When you have an indoor fire, you always have to be vigilant for embers and sparks from the burning wood. When these bits of burning debris come into contact with carpeting, clothing or upholstery, they can cause minor damage at best, and start a fire at worst. A fireplace screen in front of your fireplace doesn’t interfere with your enjoyment of the fire. But it does intercept sparks and embers before they leave the hearth. They also protect curious young hands from reaching into the fire.

The most traditional and basic fire screens usually consist of three panels of mesh fitted onto a wrought iron frame. Designs become more elaborate and more expensive beyond this basic level. Brass is another popular finish for fireplace screens. You can also get glass panel free-standing screens, which are like a combination of a screen and fireplace doors. The single piece bowed screen is also becoming more popular.

Many people complain about having to move the screen to tend the fire or add wood. Manufacturers have responded by designing screens that incorporate doors. These outward-opening doors make it possible to easily reach the fire when needed, but stay protected the rest of the time.

Just remember that screens don’t really block the airflow to or from your fireplace. If you’re concerned about heat escaping through the chimney, you might want to consider the more tightly-fitted glass fireplace doors.

Outdoor cooking is about so much more than grilled burgers. Don’t get me wrong, hamburgers cooked over a fire are indescribably better than fast food. But there are some meats that require a little more time on the grill. If you want to roast large cuts of meat over the fire for a long time, then you need to use a barbeque grill rotisserie. Roasted meat also happens to be as healthy as it is tasty. Using a rotisserie really expands the type of cooking you can accomplish with your grill.

A rotisserie is a mechanical device that rotates skewered meat on a spit, which is a long, solid rod that holds food while it’s being roasted. Rotating the meat over a fire accomplishes two things. First, it allows the meat to cook evenly on all sides. Second, it automatically bastes the meat in its own juices. Because of this, cooking goes a lot easier. There’s no stopping to baste the meat or turn it over. Rotisserie cooking can be accomplished with a low level of heat, so it’s a great way to slow roast meats.

You know that grilling is already one of the healthiest ways to prepare food. As it turns out, using a rotisserie is one of the healthiest grilling methods. It can be done indoors or out and it produces exceptionally delicious roast meats.

There are several advantages to using a rotisserie to prepare meat on a grill. Some cuts of meats simply don’t lend themselves well to traditional grilling. Whole chickens, turkeys, and beef or pork roasts are all meats that taste wonderful when cooked on a grill, but aren’t good cuts for direct grilling. Meats cooked using a rotisserie are also juicier than those cooked using other methods.

You should be aware that a dripping pan is required to collect juices that drip off the rotating meat. Usually one will be included with the rotisserie. The pan will prevent flare-ups caused by dripping fat. And the collected drippings can often be used to make an scrumptious gravy.

Many people equate a fireplace with a crackling wood fire. However, there are situations where burning wood may not be the best solution. When burning wood is not possible or advised, fireplace gas logs provide an excellent alternative. Gas logs burn cleaner and usually cost less to burn. They provide higher levels of heat than typical wood fires. For the ultimate in convenience and efficiency, you can choose vent-free gas logs that don’t even require a chimney.

Not everyone who has a fireplace is able to burn wood. Especially in urban areas or apartment homes, buying and storing wood for the fireplace is difficult, if not impossible. Of course, if you only plan to use your fireplace on special occasions, you can buy a few manufactured logs or a small bundle of wood at the grocery store or home improvement store. But if you want to count on your fireplace for heat through the cold season, you need an alternative to wood.

Fireplace gas logs provide this alternative. They are permanently installed and are designed to burn cleanly and safely. They provide heat and light just like a wood fire. The more expensive gas logs are often indistinguishable from a wood log fire. And if you have been starting wood fires from scratch, you’re going to love how gas logs start at the push of a button.

Gas logs can be installed in a traditional fireplace with a chimney. These vented gas logs produce a lot of heat, but much of the heat escapes through the chimney. Vented gas logs burn with a yellowish flame that closely resembles a wood fire.

For maximum efficiency, consider getting vent-free gas logs. They have specially designed burners that mix air and fuel to completely combust the natural gas. Therefore, they don’t require ventilation or a chimney. That means every bit of heat they produce stays in the room.

Some people make the mistake of not protecting their barbeque grill with a grill cover. BBQ grill covers are indispensable, regardless of the type of grill you own. Although they come in different materials, polyester grill covers are considered to be the best. Today you can enhance the appearance of your grill by choosing colored or patterned grill covers. Let’s find out how barbeque grill covers can help save your grill from damage and deterioration.

Although grill covers are technically an accessory, most people consider them to be essential. A good cover protects your grill from the elements and extends the useful life of your grill compared to an unprotected grill. Continued exposure to the extremes of weather can damage your grill even if it’s well-constructed. A cover can also protect your grill from dirt and debris. If you live in an urban or industrial area, there may be pollution or airborne chemicals that could be harmful. Having these collect on a cover is preferable than the surface of your grill.

Grill covers are available in at least three kinds of materials, but polyester is the most popular and most often recommended. Polyester grill covers are lightweight and durable. They remain flexible at low temperatures and resist all kinds of weather. Polyester dries quickly, reducing the chance for mold and mildew. Grill covers made from polyester can be treated to resist the damage from UV rays. One of the biggest enemies of your grill is water; a polyester grill cover with a polyurethane lining provides the highest level of waterproofing available.

Grill covers are also available in vinyl. If you choose this material, check the thickness and choose 12 gauge or thicker to ensure durability. Fabric grill covers are seen from time to time. Other than aesthetics, fabric covers have few advantages. Fabric is notorious for getting wet and taking a long time to dry.

Nothing says your BBQ grill cover has to be black. Grill covers come in a variety of fun colors and patterns that can actually enhance the look of your deck or patio.
