What is the best fabric to use for tie-dye tapestry?
I want a tie-dye tapestries rare and I do not know what fabric to use. I read that people use tablecloths and bed sheets, but I'm not sure what materials they need to be (100% cotton or synthetic fibers mixtures will work?). In addition, linen tablecloths and have different weights and the number of threads, there that work especially well and can be found cheaply in a store? I use Procion dye and pretreated with NaOH
We seem to be having some differences in concepts here. For me, a tapestry is a thick woven fabric, made by hand (or now by the machine) without the use of a shuttle. Typically scenic or floral decoration used for drapes or heavy curtains or upholstery sometimes. What do you do? Procion MX dye cellulosics such as cotton, rayon, Flax, they will also dye silk, wool and nylon, but with color shifts. See information here: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/3796-AA.shtml?lnav=dyes.html If you try to dye, for example, a mixture of poly-cotton fabric, you will get a lighter color than expected, a mottled color, warp or weft of white, and other foundation, or a mixture of others. The way in which the fibers have been blended into the fabric will determine it. If you do not commodities greige (PFD Prepared for Dyeing), you'll be prompted to advance the fabric, not just to deal with soda ash. As with sheets, tablecloths, etc. I can not begin to advise you what would be appropriate for your project, because I do not understand what it is. Can you if please explain more?
